This month we had the absolute joy of celebrating two Peregrine Falcon chicks taking to the skies from the spire of Norwich Cathedral. The fledging marked a key milestone in this year’s breeding season and an annual highlight for us at TALA, and our work with national bird of prey conservation charity the Hawk and Owl Trust.
As soon as eggs appeared in the nesting box, our team was busy behind the scenes, preparing media materials for hatching and this subsequent high-stakes moment. Once again, we found that Peregrine Falcons don’t work to media deadlines or optimal posting times, with this year’s inaugural flight taking place over the weekend!
Visitors to the Norwich Cathedral Watchpoint were able to follow the chicks’ journey from hatching through to fledging, and the chicks’ first flights were watched by thousands of people around the world via 24-hour live-stream nest cameras.
